Blog 10

Wow the semester is over. I can’t believe that… It was fast! I still remember my first day of class with Tasha. It wasn’t the official first day of classes at FIU. Actually I was taking ENC1102 with another creepy professor who seemed to doesn’t know anything so I swapped the class for Tasha’s. When I opened the door, 5 minutes before class start she was already talking to the students, and in a polite manner she asked me what the hell I was doing there. In the first days of class I was nervous. I don’t talk much at all. People in her class talk a lot, she always opens discussion. Ohhh I had the feeling that I would fail in class. The time went by and I found out how great that professor is. With hundreds of assignments she pushed us to learn. It is incredible how she can handle all the blogs, homeworks, papers, creates hundreds of webpages, be more inside the technological advances that us, and have her personal life. Tasha is a superwoman!
I think I never saw her angry on her classes. She was always smiling and being friendly to all. When I had some kind of problem with due dates or missed assignments she was always there to help. Definitely I am graduating from ENC1102 thinking out of the box. I will miss her smile, her crazy and hyper way of teach, my classmates and everything else. Ethos, logos, pathos, rhetorical analysis, sagging pants, skid row, claims…she made me learn..I will never forget it..I will never forget Tasha! Unfortunately is time to say good bye. From your quiet, weird, complicate, incomprehensible student I wish you all the best…always!
Take care
Fernanda

It is very pleasant to see that there are people that care and try to help people on the problems that still exist in the world. The initiative of creating a myspace page to promote thoughts, provide information, call people to action and try to solve the problems, is a very good idea and an honorable fact for the creator. It is an amazing attitude that proves to people that small actions can do huge things. People normally thinks that they are one small piece into the universe that would never make any difference on big issues, but these myspace pages prove the opposite. These pages prove that one single student can promote a big change in people’s life.
Myspace is a website that is very popular among Americans. Something published on this website would definitely aim the US population really quick. Otherwise one of the down points that I see on this kind of awareness is that everybody can see the main page but to navigate through the links, leave comments, send messages you need to be a myspace user. Besides this fact, myspace is popular in the US, but in other countries such as Brazil or Angola, this website is not that popular, existing the possibility of people never be able to participate of the campaign. When the intention is promote things within USA, myspace is a good and powerful machine, but when things need to be spread around the world I would not say that myspace is a good option.
Also I think that internet awareness is useful for people from middle class and up, since poor people do not have access computers or to internet. The myspace page kind of restricts too much the audience. Anyways, even with all contradictions that I believe that the myspace has, I appreciate the fact of seeing people that believe and fight for change, and in their own ways try to make the world a better place to everybody.

My opinion is that this video wasn’t as socking as the skid row, but at the same time it made me feel angrier with humanity than the other video. As a woman, it is awful think that one of that girls selling their body for survive could be me. The girls on the video are young women, full of shame and desire to live. It is disgusting how society tries to ignore them and pretend that everything is perfect. These girls are the future, and in this “profession” ends with their hopes, dreams, and beliefs. It is repulsive to see how men treat these girls. They are seeing as sexual objects. The rooms on the forest, no comfort, the trash bags, the careless with moral; it is all so dirty and painful. This video made me angry not only with men attitudes and moral, but also with these girls. We clearly see that they are marginalized, but they accept it. They may not like, but are still doing and contributing for it. They need to fight against it. The video is very reliable because it shows the women on the street and shows their rooms. The video is very successful on showing how humanity is nothing more than hungry animals.

Best Wikkis Section U1N

*1 place - Jessica
I loved the images that she posted on the firt page expressing the title of her wikki. Also on her about page she writes as she is talking to the reader. She sounds very friendly and curious. The fact of iniciating the "conversation" saluting the reader in another language then later on informing that is the only thing that she knows in Japanase was kind of funny and inesperated. Her avatar looks cool. A college girl that even with exams, assignments, blogs and wikkis enjoy life and has a smile on her face.

*2 place - Gretel
I didn't really like her images and the text all colorful. It kinda got me dizzy, but i really liked the idea of the game...wanna know me, click here and find out. Interesting approach and hook up.

*3 place - Ken
I liked the relation of the color of his blog, the description of him on the about and the picture of Bob Marley. He uses strong claim and in my opinion is one of the best wikkis when analyzing the content. Also the picture of Bob Marley made me more favorable to him because I am going to Jamaica next week for spring break and I very excited. This month everything related to Jamaica has one favorable point. =P

Flashing Lights - Kanye West
Analysis by: Rae - Section U1F

When analyzing “Flashing Lights” from Kanye West, Rae explained phrase by phrase of the song. In my opinion it is a strong point in her analysis because it helped the lyrics be clearer and understandable for the reader whose is not familiar with this type of song and language. Also I liked the link that she made between this song and the song superstar from Lupe Fiasco, but I believe that she should have explored it a little bit more instead just state that the songs are similar. This statement is kind of hanging in the air.

A weak point on her analysis is when she does a brief summary of what the lyrics talks about and she doesn’t deeply explain the meaning of it in a larger level. There are no analysis of arguments, claims, appeals, voice, style, color and tone of language, audience and context. The choice for this song was good but the overall for her analysis is that she could have explored the song a little bit more.

According to what was asked in this assignment I would grade her analysis with a C.

My opinion about the government imposing a law to teach people how to dress up is that it is a ridiculous situation!!
In theory we live in a free country were we can decide for our actions, for what we say, and what we dress. The right of free speech has been already taken for us, now they are trying to control how we should dress. Definitely we are living in a makeup Cuba!
How we dress is part of our personality. Trough clothes we show some of our characteristics and thoughts.
Use the pants very low and shirts with super cuts may be offensive for some people, but the distance between a re-education to create a law controlling it is very far.
Another point that should be considered is that what these people who show the boxers or the chests are showing is their bodies, so the one who really needs to care about it are themselves and not the government. If they didn't have this teaching at home, the government is not the one who should teach now. There are many other problems, big ones like war, poverty, hungry and others that the government should take care instead spend time and money regulating people's clothes.
Of course people must have a strong argument to be using clothes like that and have a background of the style that he/she is supporting because sometimes you can be helping a bad cause without noticing. But anyways, dressing is a personal matter and not political. People see a lot of offensive things on outdoors, magazines and television and don't complain about it, but now they want to waste our police officers in pursuits to a guy that’s is showing his $20 dollars boxers. Come on, wake up people. What will be the end? Everybody using prison clothes so nothing is showing, everybody is equal and no more problems with clothes will happen?? Maybe.
Please, let's worry with IMPORTANT problems, and not futilities.

Honestly, I hate politics, and the more I learn about it, more it dislikes me. It’s repulsive to see the way politicians treat people, how the laws are made, and the commitment of politicians with the society. If we analyze politics separately in every country, we can notice that corruption, willing for power, money, and dishonesty is present everywhere. The difference is that in some countries in Latin America and Africa this social deterioration is done explicitly while in USA or in the Europe, it has the perfect make up, where society can not notice the corruption behind the acts. A good example for is could be the salaries in Brazil, a Latin America country. A senator in this country earns around $50,000 a month, while a regular worker has the minimum salary at $150 a month. This is a casa of explicit dishonesty. Opposing of it, in the USA, the government has implanted the FCAT, where it will measure the student progress in class, in order to “doesn’t let any child behind”, and all be on the same level. Oh wow, when we hear it, sound perfect, the solution for education; but wait, here comes the manipulation of ideas AGAIN. While people think that the government is improving education in the country, he is actually cutting his spendings with it. This is the perfect make up, the perfect manipulation. Have anyone thought about this program deeply? Did you notice that in this program the child will not be measured in his evolution or progress, but he will be compared with the kids that were in that grade before him? This is dishonesty. All of us know that people has different abilities and difficulties, measure a child with one before him and not with his own progress is unfair. Besides it, the most important point of this program that anyone talks about is that if the progress of the child is not good or better than the one before, the school will receive less help from the state. Aham, finally we see the dishonesty. This program has the intention of saving more money and not improving education. It is the law of life that tells that no person is equal to another, it is almost impossible maintains a regular improvement of every class in the USA in every school every year. Maintain constant is ok, but not improve constantly. Another collateral effect of it is that you will create your children under the pressure and afraid. What kind of human being will they become? They are the future, their character are still being constructed. This program trough a perfect make up manipulate people’s thoughts and obtain its purpose (save money) at the same time that deteriorate society and make them more dependent of the government and their actions. This is politics, this is life. This is the shame where we live.
